Where To Run
What do you find yourself running to when it feels like your life is falling apart? Is it alcohol? Drugs? Sex? The internet? Once you go to these things you realize you become dependent on them. You feel as though you need them to get through or to escape to. What you may not realize is that you need increases because these things aren’t truly fixing you, they are just temporary pleasures. Sometimes you may even feel worse after involving yourself with those things. Your mental health is foggier, you feel guilty or unsatisfied, and you are looking for another reason to escape. When in this spot, many people feel that they can’t turn to God. They feel they have done too much wrong and are too far gone. This may also lead to feelings of being helpless and hopeless. However, that is actually the best time to turn to God. He meets you right where you are!
God takes away any guilt or shame you have as He is restoring and remaking you.
In fact, through all the difficult times you encounter, God may be stripping away the people or things you depend on or escape to. He wants you to experience His goodness, realizing that all you actually need is Him! God wants all of you and takes you as you are. He wants you to depend on Him, and best of all, He brings satisfaction through Himself in whatever you’re dealing with. You don’t need to look any further than to Him. God is your Help. He is always preparing and growing you through the circumstances you go through, in ways you do not see. When you get to know God, you begin to realize His work in your life. He gives purpose to any pain or difficulties you experience. That purpose may come through:
seeing glimpses of what was produced in you through your circumstance
you helping others through something similar since you went through it already
God doesn’t ask for you to be perfect, He just wants you to know the One who is.
What you will begin to understand is that the path with God is not perfect, but it will bring you to a perfect place, which is being with God forever in heaven. When you do life with Him you won’t have immunity from experiencing difficulties or pain. What you can have with God is peace during the process.
Jesus through His innocent life, death on a cross, and resurrection has taken away your sin and has made you perfect in God’s eyes. When you repent of your sins and believe in what Jesus did, you are made new, and you are His! Psalm 147:3 states, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” God is known to take our broken pieces and put them back together. So, when you feel like you’re falling apart, and get the urge to run to the temporary things of this world, remember what God has done for you and run to Him! Only He can satisfy your needs, make you new, and help you through.
