You’ll Never Fully Understand
None of us have what it takes to fully understand God’s plan. God is so wise and powerful! That is why He is God and we are not. That is also why He sent Jesus to come help us through this life. Although Adam and Eve messed it up for us all, God did not let the story end there. Jesus came with the mission of redemption, as He is the embodiment of God’s love and Word! Therefore, we must learn to release what control we think we have, since Jesus stepped into our stories before we even began walking them out. Ephesians 1:4 tells us that, “..he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” We can be those things because of Jesus dying on the cross for the world’s sins. In Bible times, many thought the Messiah would overthrow Rome and become King. However, God had a way better plan. Instead of just overcoming the physical challenges that everyone dealt with, Jesus came to overcome all the invisible powers that had a hold on His children.
You may not know how each piece fits together, but God does!
Our understanding and insight are very limited, but God’s is not. He uses every obstacle, including hurts and pain, in the way He sees best for each person.
Let’s look at an example in the book of Daniel. Most people only know the part of Daniel in the lions' den, or the part of the three men in the fire, yet do not know the back story leading up to each event. During this time, there was a king who was trying to have every person conform to worshipping his false gods. The three men stood up for their belief in the One True God, and as said in Daniel 3:17-18, “If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” What a bold way to stand up for your faith! “But if not” has always stuck out to me in these verses. You see, the men did not know for certain that God was going to save them from burning alive, not until they were in the fire. So, in using these three words, we realize just how much faith these men had that they would rather take the chance of dying than to defy God. In the same way, we need to have our faith be bigger than our fears. Our faith needs to be in God and His unchanging character, knowing that only He needs to know the “why” and “how” of things. If we were to ask God one question thinking it would help, it would always lead to more questions. We never can fully understand all that goes into the plan that God has for each person's life. So, the real question for you is this:
Do you trust God and His intentions enough to not waiver with life’s changing circumstances?
The biggest way to shift your thinking is learning to expect that God’s plan is always better than what you think is best for you. Now, I’m not discouraging you to ask questions, but I am encouraging you to not question who God is in the process. It says in God’s Word many times a version of whatever you ask in Jesus’ name, will be given to you (found in John 14:14, John 15:7etc.). I think it’s so special that God wants us to come to Him just so He can give. God gives what He sees fit. An important tip is to ask for things that go along with His character because that is what we really need. John 14:27 is a prime example of this as it states, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” Nothing God gives is temporary as He is eternal, so we can always find what we truly are looking for in Him! His peace is like no other (Philippians 4:7)! His love is unconditional (Romans 5:8, Romans 8:38-39)! And His joy fills us (John 15:10-11, John 17:13)! Therefore, getting answers to any questions you may have should never be more prominent than trusting God and having faith in Him. In Isaiah 43:26 God even invites us to come to Him with our concerns/points as He says, “Put me in remembrance; let us argue together, set forth your case, that you may be proved right.” However, I will say again, the importance of remembering that He is God and you are not. Isaiah 40:28 puts it into perspective for us. It reads, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Another example of God’s great power and wisdom shown in Isaiah 45:11-12 and I could go on! But I want to leave you with this,
If God holds the universe together, He can surely hold the pieces of your life together too!
We need to remind ourselves of our place in God’s Kingdom, and how He is the One who is more than capable to do anything. Lastly, we need to ask, not command, things of the Lord. He does all the work, but He graciously chooses to do it through us (Isaiah 26:12)! So, when you begin to become overwhelmed by things around you that bring doubt and fear, turn to the Lord. He is not afraid of what goes through your mind. In fact, He wants you to bring it to Him for an exchange that will change your view to how good and great of a God we get to serve!
