What God Does

Are you ashamed of the things that have occurred in your life? Do you want to keep parts of your life secret from others, and from God, due to the possibility of judgement?

Well, you’re in luck because God sent His son for people with messy stories and broken hearts. We may think why, or who, would ever want to know me and the dark moments of my life? Jesus was presented with a similar question in the book of Matthew chapter nine. In verse eleven the high authorities of that day (the Pharisees) asked the disciples (the students who follow Jesus) “why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Now, for some context, the tax collectors were very disliked because of their job of taking taxes and enforcing the law. In addition, they usually stole money for themselves. Yet Jesus, who is the perfect son of God, was sitting and “reclining” at a table with these people. It makes sense for people to question and ask, “why them out of all people?” Jesus gives an eye-opening response in the next verse, “he said, ‘those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.’” Jesus explained how He came to save His people from their sins, sicknesses, and brokenness. He came to save those who don’t have it all together. Psalm 34:18 states, “the LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Later, in verse twenty-two, it is written, “the LORD redeems the life of his servant; none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” Therefore, we get to see how God prefers those that are in need of help hoping that they will accept His helping hand!

God prefers those that are in need of help hoping that they will accept His helping hand!

He came for those who are humble enough to know they cannot do life themselves without Him. As said in the previous verse, “the LORD redeems” which means He saves you, makes you free, and makes you new. In addition, “none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” Therefore, you do not need to worry about being judged by God when you go to Him for refuge, confidently knowing that He will never turn you away. All He wants you to do is recognize your need for Him. God wants you to believe in the fact that He sent His son Jesus to live, die, and rise from the dead to save you and set you free! People may judge you and your story, or you may feel ashamed of things that have happened in your life, but Jesus has a response for you in the book of 2 Corinthians chapter twelve. In verse nine Jesus says, ‘my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Paul, the writer of the book, goes on to say, “therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” So, please do not allow the devil to trick you into thinking that you should be ashamed and therefore not share your story.

God wants you to share your story to reveal the good He brings out of it, knowing that it will not only benefit you but others too!

Isaiah 61:3 states, “to grant those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garments of praise instead of a faint spirit..” This verse illustrates an exchange that happens when you bring your hurt and struggle to God. When you go to the LORD, and truly know Him, you trade in all the bad to gain what He has in store for you, which is all good things wrapped in comfort and freedom! I hope that through reading this you start to see a glimpse of what God does! God redeems, renews, and restores! He cares so much that He is willing to come along side you and step into your mess. When you surrender all to God, really seeking who He is, you will experience freedom and want to boast all the more about your weaknesses!
